Strawberry Picking

Strawberry Picking in Sudbury, Ontario Nothing says the summer quite like sinking your teeth into a large, juicy, freshly picked strawberry. The fruit, which is at peak season during the months of June and July, can be picked at one of the three berry farms within the city.

Grab some baskets and take the kids on a trip they’ll be sure to remember. Lasting summer memories are created carefully searching for the perfect fruit. The summer sun shines down as pickers choose only the most plump, deep coloured and succulent strawberries of the patch. Once discovered, it’s impossible to resist the urge to bite into the fruit right away. Eating a strawberry fresh off the branch is something everyone should get the chance to experience.

Don’t have the time or the strength to pick your own basket? Not to worry, many of the growers hire local students throughout the summer months as pickers in order to provide pre-picked baskets for a slightly higher price.

According to the Ontario Berry Growers Association, “the strawberry is considered one of the most important small fruits grown in the Western hemisphere.” Join all the fun at one of Sudbury’s berry farms and experience for yourself why the strawberry has become a part of Ontario’s culture.

Tip: Be sure to wear lots of sunscreen, as the sun can be quite hot.
